The new Google Keyboard from Android L is very easy to install and you can get it right now by installing it like a regular app.

Follow the instructions below to install the Google Keyboard from Android L and activate Material Design in it.

Before proceeding to the instructions, you will need to fulfill few requirements:

  • You must be running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), Android 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or Android 4.4 (Kitkat) to install this Google Keyboard.
  • You must uninstall the previously installed Google Keyboard in-order to install this one otherwise, you won’t be able to get the material UI.

Instructions:

  • First of all, download the Google Keyboard apk from this link to your phone or download it in your PC and transfer it to your phone.
  • Once downloaded, open the app’s apk file by tapping it from where you downloaded or transferred it.

Note: You will have to enable the installation of apps from outside the Play Store by following the instructions in this article.

  • You would be asked for the app to install. Press ‘Install’.
  • Now, the app will start installing. Once installed, press ‘Open‘.
