For unlocking the Android device, relying merely on one mechanism is not a good idea. There must be more than one method to unlock the screen. In addition to the power button, home button and on screen unlocking mechanism, Android has also a feature which enabled the option to unlock the screen by just tapping the menu button. The purpose of so many options to unlock is to facilitate the unlocking the screen.
But unlocking the screen by taping the menu button may not be activated by default in many Android devices and you may need to activate and enable this feature.
The instructions, given below, may be helpful to activate this feature of unlocking the Android device screen by tapping the men button.

Command Line: Settings –Home > Lock screen – PERSONALIZATION > Button actions – GENERAL > Menu unlock.
1: Tap the icon of the ‘Settings’ at the Home screen of your Android 4.4.4 KitKat device to open up the ‘Settings’ screen.2: At the ‘Settings’ screen, scroll down to the PERSONALIZATION section and tap the ‘Lock screen’. 3: At the ‘Lock screen’ screen, tap the ‘Button actions’ in the GENERAL section. 4: At the ‘Button actions’ screen, see the ‘Menu unlocks’ is unchecked, i.e. disabled. 5: Tap the ‘Menu unlock to check and activate this feature. From now onward, you may tap the ‘Menu’ button to unlock the screen, in addition to other unlocking features.
