This option is suitable when you are visiting any place where open networks are available for users of any mobile device. Now a days, markets, hotels, airports and many public places offer open networks where mobile device users may use Wi-Fi. Whenever you are at such places, Android will send you notification about this open network so that you may enjoy free Wi-Fi but subject to the activation of such feature at your Android device.

If you want to enjoy this notification, it is better to get this feature activated. If you feel some problem, you may get help from the instructions.

Instructions

Command Line: Settings – HOME > Wi-Fi –WIRELESS & NETWORKS > Settings Popup Menu Button > Advanced > Wi-Fi optimization.

Note: If you want to use this feature, you will have to switch ON Wi-Fi at your Android device. 

1: Tap the icon of ‘Settings’ on the HOME screen of your Android 4.4.4 KitKat device to open up the ‘Settings’ screen. KitKat-Notification Open Network 12: Tap the ‘Wi-Fi’ in the WIRELESS & NETWORKS’ section. Get the Wi-Fi switched ON. KitKat-Notification Open Network 23: At the ‘Wi-Fi’ screen, tap the ‘Settings’ button, given at the bottom right corner of the screen. It will open up a popup menu. KitKat-Notification Open Network 34: Tap the ‘Advanced’ in the ‘Settings’ popup menu. KitKat-Notification Open Network 45: At the ‘Advanced Wi-Fi’ screen, see the ‘Network notification – Notify me when an open network is available’ is not checked, i.e. disabled. KitKat-Notification-Open-Network-56: Tap the ‘Network notification’ to check and enable. KitKat-Notification-Open-Network-6From now onward, whenever you will visit such places, along with your Android device, where network is open for use, your Android will notify you about the availability of such open network(s) so that you can enjoy this facility.

    How can you make this an audible notification? Silly that it’s not an option. Is there an app that will do this? I want to walk down the street and be notified when an open wifi is nearby.
