Depending upon your mood and the presentation of the Home screen for the different purposes, you may like not to display wallpapers on your Android 4.4.4 KitKat phone screen for some time or permanently. It will make your phone screen dark and black with no wallpapers but the icons of different apps will be visible on the home screen of your phone. To do so, follow the instructions.
Instructions
1: Tap and hold the Home screen of your Android 4.4.4 KitKat, anywhere, for a while. It will change its shape and display of the home screen and whole the home screen will be transformed into a Menu setting screen.
2: At the bottom of the Menu screen, see three following buttons:

WALLPAPERS

WIDGETS
-
SETTINGS
3: Tap the WALLPAPERS to open the library of wallpapers.
4: Swipe the picture slider of wallpapers at the bottom of the screen to the extreme right. 
5: The last button is; No wallpaper. Tap it. It will, instantly, take you back to the Home screen of your phone. 
6: Here, you can see a black screen with no wallpaper but the different app buttons can be seen, prominently.
